Natural Medicine Research Centre
atural Medicine Research Centre also known as NMRC is one of the
research centre in the Division of Special Project. It was established
Nand started its operation in the early 2016 with its own vision “Toward
healthy ageing, enhanced well-being as well as wisdom of the Ummah”. As
it brings the theme of natural health, mission of this centre is to be a leading
referral of NMRC in the country and the ASEAN community on healthy
ageing, enhanced wellbeing and wisdom.
The objectives of NMRC are:
i. To conduct research on healthy ageing and other related natural medicines (NM) disciplines and to provide
R&D platform for researchers and students in the four academic programs (Finance, Law, Heritage and History,
Management) to conduct and collaborate on studies in these areas.
ii. To build a centre of information on NM–published materials in the form of books, manuscripts; digital materials on
videos, and e-publications.
iii. To build a strong networking of all stakeholders of NM including researchers in public and private colleges and
universities, related government ministries and departments; private corporations and companies; small scale
entrepreneurs, and associations which made up of various NM practitioners.
iv. To document activities of NM by publishing books, e-publications, videos and make them available to the global
market.
The implementation strategy of Natural Medicine Research Centre
A. To conduct research in various areas of NM
• To undertake intensive literature review on the status of healthy ageing and NM in Malaysia, followed by the
identification of focus/priority areas. Research projects will revolve around the following agreed domain:
i. A comparative study of Practices of Natural Medicine in Malaysia and its neighbours;
ii. A study on the use and practices of Natural Medicine among Indigenous People in Malaysia;
iii. A study on the Effects of Natural Medicine on Longevity;
iv. A study on the Botanical Herbal Gardens and Farms in Malaysia;
v. A comparative study of Western and Asian Natural Medicine (Food Habit) Consumption;
vi. Therapeutic Massages and other practices of NM on healthy ageing.
• To hold regular interactions with the academic staff and post-graduate students of UIM and other relevant
scholars and researchers.
• To undertake collaborative studies with R&D institutions.
B. To develop an information centre on NM
• To establish a library of published information–books, journals, e-books, videos, and others.
• To build data bases covering, among others, scholars, practitioners, institutions/organisations from all over the
globe; NGOs; medium and small scale industries.
• To establish website links with related institutions.
C. To establish a strong network with all related stakeholders in NM
• To build personal and professional linkages with scholars, researchers, administrators, practitioners and
entrepreneurs, as well as corporations in the NM industries both locally and internationally through traditional
and digital media.
