WAQF @ UIM Introduction
UIM has been a waqf university since
8th April 1955; the day the Sultan of
Selangor endowed his residential
palace in Kampung Jawa, Klang
(pic), to the initial trustees of the
newly established Muslim College
of Malaya (Kolej Islam Malaya). With
50-odd male and female students,
KIM started the Arabic and Islamic
courses degree programmes
in collaboration with Al-Azhar
University in Cairo.
Benefitting the Ummah
That waqf and subsequent donations - in cash and in property - had enabled the Muslim College to operate as a higher
academic institution of respectable stature in Malaya for almost fifteen years. As seen below, waqf donations poured in
from many parts of the muslim world from 1955-1970 (source: National Archive Malaysia).
Kedah $ 15,471.65 Perak $ 26,015.42
Johor $ 68,832.91 Perlis $ 5,242.10
N.Sembilan $ 15,222,55 Pahang $ 16,270.45
Kelantan $ 12,644.75 Melaka $ 5,184.00
Penang $ 8,000.00 Singapura $151,723.41
Selangor $ 49,217.51 Saudi Arabia $ 55,000.00
Terengganu $ 6,486.60 Brunei $ 50,000.00
As a result, KIM had sucessfully produced brilliant first degree graduates, some of whom managed to continue their
postgraduates in Al-Azhar and other established universities around the world. One of them is the current President of
UIM, Tan Sri Prof. Dr. Mohd Yusof Mohd Noor (below), who was conferred his PhD from Cairo University in 1972.
UIM Waqf Fund Launched
On 7 April 2016, the President of UIM Tan Sri Prof. Dr. Mohd Yusof Noor has launched a new waqf scheme called UIM’s
Waqf Fund or “Tabung Wakaf UIM” (TWUIM), to facilitate cash waqf received from UIM management, personnel, and
external individuals, via monthly salary deduction, auto debit or one-off contributions.
TWUIM is partly invested and used for property development especially for UIM’s new campus in Cyberjaya. (Please refer
to the TWUIM Waqf Model below).
