Women’s Right and Responsibilities-Between Text and Context
Abdul Monir Yaacob and Nurul ‘Uyun Haji Zainal
In Islam, women are not allowed to become the head of state or head of government
because it has not happened in the Islamic system of government in the early days of Islam
up to the time of the reign of the Ottoman government. The duties of the head of state in
Islam are very broad, which includes as head of religious affairs.
Women in Islam have certain limitations, in addition to their rights and responsibilities
towards the family. In this book, there are papers that analyse and clarify the rights and
responsibilities of women, according to the text and law in Malaysia. The law applies in the
administration of family is ‘Islamic Family Law’. Each state in the country has that specific
law.
However, the completed law is inadequate, unless it is administered fairly and impartially.
