BACKGROUND

This Seminar will focus on:

Wisdom in the Thoughts, Words and Actions of People in the East:

• East Asia (Japan, China and Korea);
• Pacific Islands (Polynesian, Marquesan, Melanesian Islands);
• Southeast Asia (Mainland and Insular);
• South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives);
• West Asia/Middle East.

Wisdom from the major religions, belief systems and faiths of the world:

• Judaism - ancient Hebrew, the natural wisdom in the Hebrew Bible, sacred text the Torah (Taurah) – the five books of Moses, or the ‘Old Testament’, The Ten Commandments, Israel’s wisdom literature (including the wisdom of Solomon);
• Christianity – the Bible (the biblical proverbs), Jesus (and his sayings), the New Testament;
• Islam – The Qur’an, Prophet Muhammad (and his Hadiths); early Muslim scholars, the concept of the Qur’anic Hikmah (wisdom);
• The wisdom of Confucius;
• Hindu Wisdom;
• Buddhist Wisdom;
• Wisdom in Taoism.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Seminar are to:

• Learn those wise thoughts, words and actions from their folklores, legends, histories, geograhies, heroes, languages, religions, beliefs, literatures, cultures, customes, mannerisms, and behaviours;
• Analyse the utility or applicability of wisdom in our daily life;
• Assert that wisdom is crucial and vital for the future wellbeing and survival of mankind.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Seminar is open to all scholars of Social Sciences and Humanities (i.e. Philosophy, Psychology, History, Politics, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, Economics, Literature, Languages, Religions and others) interested in the subject called wisdom. Participation from paper writers and presenters are most welcome.

Abstracts should not be more than 250 words and submitted in English or Bahasa Malaysia or Arabic by Friday, 17 June 2016. They must include the objective, scope, methodology and important issues discussed. Papers should not have been previously published. On notified acceptance of the Abstract, full papers should be submitted by Friday, 16 September 2016. They should not exceed 5,000 words. Submission should be in Microsoft Word format Font 12 Point Times New Roman. Information about the author’s designation, organisation and contact details (phone/mobile/email) should be included and sent to: wisdompapersubmission@uim.edu.my

• Registration fees for Paper Presenters will be waived.
• The fee will cover the conference package (proceedings, meals) only. Participants cover their own travelling and accommodation expenses.
• A group discount of 10% is available for three or more participants from one institution or corporation registering together.
• An early bird discount of 15% off the registration fee is offered for registration received before Friday, 26 August 2016.
• Registration is not complete until payment has been made.
• Any cancellation after Friday, 16 September 2016 will be forfeited. However, you may nominate a representative in replace of your good self.
